Question about Jira/Gitlab integration

We originally had our Jira and self-hosted Gitlab integrated (hosted in AWS w/EKS) through the Gitlab for Jira app in the marketplace. We wanted to try the Jira development panel our, and after hooking it up with DVCS, the create branch link would only direct you to gitlab.com, instead of our own domain. I later read that that is expected, so I uninstalled the app and only used the panel integration with DVCS. Now the create branch link, for instance, just gives you a git command to copy versus a link to our actual instance. I can see our repos are linked, as I did the integration at a group level. I was just wondering if this is expected behavior, or a result of us being on the free version of Jira (for now). For reference, our gitlab is version 15.5
