Question regarding dashboard.

Sangeeta Bhatia July 15, 2024

I am trying to create a dashboard widget where by I can see total # of Story Points (custom field) for each category (Its a drop down custom field w various diff categories of work), in a given sprint

Secondly, I want the

where by I can see total # of Story Points (custom field) for each assignee , in a given sprint (for which I do have a filter for all items in that sprint)

How can I accomplish this. Thanks.

And I recall at one of my last company I was able to configure such dashboard. I think the issue may be that I see limited # of dashboard widgets. I can see only 34 gadgets in the dashboard. Are there more gadgets?

Hello @Sangeeta Bhatia,

I am Marlene, product manager of Quick Filters for Jira Dashboards.

With our app you should be able to achieve both, since it is possible to sum up number fields, including story points, with our statistics gadgets.

For your use case I would recommend to work with the issue statistics gadget.

  • After installation of our app, add the Quick Issue Statistics gadget to your dashboard
  • Select "Category" as "Field"
  • Select "Story Points" as Values Shown

To show the story points per assignee you can choose the same gadget.

On top of that you can add the Quick Controller on your dashboard and filter the gadgets dynamically per sprint.

You can test Quick Filters for Jira Dashboards without installation on our demo dashboards.

Hi @Sangeeta Bhatia,

This cannot be accomplished with the Jira's native gadgets, which cannot calculate sums.

You can easily do this by using the Pivot Table & Pivot Chart gadget offered by our Great Gadgets app.

#1 Sum of Story Points by Category

#2 Sum of Story Points by Assignee

You can also display them both in the same gadget.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

You can also try rich filters for Jira and see if that fulfils your requirement. It's a good option if you are looking for a more powerful dashboard with advance filters, customization, and metrics. You can use this to set up views to display total story points by category and assignee within in a assigned sprint. I think this can really make your dashboard dynamic and interactive. See documentation and let me know if this is something that interests you. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion Yousuf but we cannot purchase or install any new app at this time unfortunately.

@Sangeeta Bhatia Welcome you might use a 2 dimensional filter gadget.

@Nicolas Grossi  I have tried using 2 dimensional filter gadges but they dont achieve what I am looking for. For example in the Two dimension gadget below I am linking to  a filter that has all the stories in the current sprint. I want see total story points for each assignee, When I use the 2 dimensional filter, I have assignee on Y axis and Story points on X axis but instead of total story points per assignee it shows me the # of stories assigned to each assignee.Screenshot 2024-07-15 at 7.09.28 PM.png
