Question regarding the free space health check

Gaven Ray June 13, 2016

We are getting an error with the free space health check regarding "Low disk space on device containing temporary directory (/opt/atlassian/jira/temp)" does this folder get cleared when JIRA is restarted? I assume it is safe to delete any thing marked as .tmp however there are also from the look of it some plugin data that is in there. Should I clear out the folder, restart JIRA, or just change the allocated space to the folder?

It's not automatically cleared - some files can persist across restarts.

There is no harm in removing the files from here, beyond the odd bit of slowness - the worst case is that if JIRA needs them all, it'll recreate them while it runs, which won't be quite as fast as having them left there from last time.

But.  Only delete while JIRA is stopped!  Otherwise you could be deleting something the system is relying on.
