Hi,

I have the following issue:

We want to have a Confluence Page to show the full Backlog ordered by Rank

We have multiple future sprints created to plan a bit ahead.

Sprint 1 Active

Sprint 2 Future

Sprint 3 Future

When I move an Issue from Top of Sprint 2 to Sprint 3 the Ranking of this issue is still higher than all issues in Sprint 2.

Is that a known bug or maybe a requested feature or am I doing something wrong?

Hello Thomas

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

That is not a bug. The functionality is working correctly.

The Rank of an issues is relative to all other issues globally in Jira. It does not consider whether the issue is in a sprint or a backlog or neither (i.e. on a Kanban board).

When you move the issue from a sprint to another sprint or a backlog, or when you change the status of the issue, that does not change its Rank.

Here are a couple of articles about how Ranking works:

Hi Trudy,

thanks for clarification. If this works as designed, I wonder why there is the possibility to move sprints up and down, I would expect that a issues in a higher ranked sprint will be ranked higher than issues in a lower ranked sprint.

I found a feature request regarding this https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWSERVER-14869 hopefully the linked duplicate issue will be implemented sooner or later https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWSERVER-6911

Your post is tagged as Jira Cloud, but the issue links you included are for Jira Server. Here's the link for the same issue for Jira Cloud.
