Hello,

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

To ensure that we understand your question correctly, can you provide screen images and in them point out exactly what you are trying to hide?

Can I control the visibility of fields (columns) on the board of my software project with a custom filter?

Although it is an image, there are usually the following fields (A to C). I want to display only fields B and C with a custom filter (or something). (Field A is hidden) *The board in the field must be the same as the display and non-display of the field.

■Normal

 Field A, Field B, Field C

■ After filtering

 Field B, Field C

No, it is not possible to control the display of columns with filters.

The columns are showing the available Status values for the items. The expectation of the design of the Jira product is that items will progress from one status to another and then another, moving across the columns. For example, the item starts out as "To Do" when the work has not yet been started. Then when work is started the Status is changed to "In Progress". And when the work is completed the Status is changed to "Done".

Is that how you are using the Status field? If not, what does Status represent in your items? Perhaps there is another solution for the information you are currently putting into your Status field.

Thank you for your contact. It will be an image diagram. Thank you very much for your kindness. *I would like to display only the year 2023. (a field in a board in a software project)

How would you anticipate managing response timing and priority through a Kanban board?

You can indicate that an issue in a particular column is a higher priority in that column/status by dragging the card higher up above other cards in that column..

I'm not sure what you mean by response timing.

You could set the Due Date for an issue and display that field in the cards in the board. With the Jira Software product you could create Swimlanes (horizontal groupings) based on the criteria applied to Due Date field. For instance, you could create a swimlane for issues that are overdue, another swimlane for the issues due in the next week, another swimlane for the items due later than the next 7 days and less than the next 30 days, etc. Issues would display in the appropriate swimlane automatically.

I've got it. Thank you for your reply.

I would like to add one more point.

I would like to manage the response timing and priority of requirements. Is there any good solution?

*I would like to change the priority and response time using a board (Kanban). I've considered Trello, but I'd like to implement it in jira.

Thank you.

Can you provide more information about what it means to you to manage priority using a Kanban board? Can you describe a scenario for how you would expect to understand the priority of items when viewing them on the board?

Can you provide similar information about what it means to you to manage response time using a Kanban board? What do you mean by response time? Is that the time it takes between creation of the card and completion of the work? Are you trying to manage the expectation about when the work will be completed? Are you trying to report on how many days pass between the creation of the card and the completion of the work? Can you describe a scenario for how you would expect the board to help you understand the response time?

Hi,Trudy Claspill

Thank you for your kindness.
I am a member of the same team as taidet46.

> You can indicate that an issue in a particular column is a higher priority in that column/status by dragging the card higher up above other cards in that column..

As you say, I can see that certain columns have higher priority from the top.
However, I don't know what my task is from the top unless I count it.
We have a lot of tasks, so I'd like an easier way to figure out their priorities than counting.

"Response time" is almost synonymous with "release timing."

For example, for ongoing tasks, check when it will be released.
Also, the completed tasks are used to review which tasks were released in which month.
Never complete a card, leave it semi-permanently.

After years of JIRA, the queue of release timings keeps growing.
So I asked if there was a way I could filter the columns in the board.

I understand that the basic usage of JIRA is designed to complete tasks with to do, in progress, and completion.

I think that the Kanban board is easy to understand at a glance, making it easy to check when and what was done and the order of priority.
If you have a method or a JIRA template that can realize the operation we are trying to do, we would appreciate it if you could suggest it.

Hello @Shi01zu

Welcome to the community.

I think you are using your Kanban columns in a non-standard way.

The columns are intended to indicate the status of the item, not the priority of an item. The priority of the item is indicated by its position in the list of issues that are shown in a column. The higher the card is in the column/status, the higher its priority is compared to the other issues in the column/status.

Columns are intended to represent the status of a work item as it progresses through its life cycle. In the simplest form an item starts in a To Do status (it is known but no work has been done related to it). When work starts it moves to the In Progress status. When work is completed it moves to the Done status. You would therefore have three columns - To Do, In Progress, and Done. After the work has completed/Done for a period of time (14 days) then the item will be hidden from the board to reduce the clutter of items on the board, allowing you to focus on the work that is not yet complete.

Based on the image provided by @taidet46 you are using a Business/Work Management project. It appears that you are using columns/statuses to indicate when items are being released. This makes you board cluttered with many columns and harder to view in my opinion.

You could instead use custom Date fields to indicate when an item is due to be released, and when it is actually released. The project functionality includes a Calendar view that would show you the items on a calendar based on the Due date.

If you "release" items on a specific cadence, such as monthly, you could have a custom field that is a selection list that enables you to select the month when the item is released. You can add that custom field to the display of fields on the card on the board. You could use gadgets on a Jira Dashboard to provide a report of which items are targeted to be released at a particular time and which are actually released at a particular time.

Hello @Trudy Claspill

Thank you for your kindness.
Sorry for the frank greeting.

It seems wrong to manage what we do with a Kanban board.

Thank you for your suggestions for the calendar and report functions.
Since there is still time to start operation, I will try the report function.

Experiment with other features and templates.
Looking at the results, we will reconsider the operation method and whether to use tools other than JIRA.

Kind regards.
