Dear All,
I am looking for some kind of information or documentation, regarding creating API tokens, that users in my organization can use for authentication purposes and these tokens are not linked with any user account.
Some people when they leave and their accounts are disabled, so the respective generated or linked API token will become void. So is there a way to generate an API token that is not linked to any user account?
Thanks in advance.
Apps are, for some intents and purposes, users.
Would creating an app using specific APIs work?
Hi @Umer Asghar ,
So sorry, I missed your question in November.
@Bhanu KN is, of course, correct – Jira itself always links API tokens to specific users. While you can create technical user accounts for your integrations, that approach never quite felt right for us at Polymetis Apps.
We therefore created an app for that: API Key Manager for Jira. That app allows you to create multiple API keys with different permission and even expiry dates. These keys are tied to the app, not an individual user.
Hope that helps,
Oliver

Hi Umer,
Unfortunately, there is no such option yet. What could be done is to have an account under the name Jira administrator (you will have to have an email dedicated to this account as well). generate tokens here. If the user managing this account leaves, he could pass on the credentials to another administrator, and so on.
Cheers,
Bhanu:)
