We currently use JIRA via Atlassian OnDemand for several clients/customers, each of which have their own access.
The ability to browse users is very useful, however, this is a global permission, this means that if I give the permission to client X then they can see all users from client Y. This is not particularly desirable, especially as certain drop downs display email addresses.
Is there a way to configure JIRA to allow browsing of users only associated to the same projects as the searcher?
No, this isn't currently possible. Vote for https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-7467.
