This inquiry is about how to automatically set the status of the parent task to "Done" when all sub-tasks are marked as "Done."
I believe it is possible to achieve this by using Jira's automation feature, which allows the status of the parent task to be automatically set to "Done" based on the status of the sub-tasks.
Previously, even without using the automation feature, the parent task would automatically be marked as "Done" when all sub-tasks were completed.
Are there any other methods besides automation to achieve this?

Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Another way that may have been managed automatically is with a Workflow Transition Post Function. That could've been made available through a third party app.
Additionally you may be thinking of the pop-up that can display when transitioning a subtask to "done" by dragging its card to the "done" column on an Agile board.
To the best of my knowledge, Jira does not offer a native feature that automatically marks a parent task as complete when all of its sub-tasks are finished.
If it previously appeared that this behavior was possible, it was likely due to an automation rule that had been configured at the time.
