Active Sprints view is empty but not in the Backlog view

I have created a new project (Jira Software), I have created my sprint, made it active and created an issue. It shows in the backlog view in the active sprint (see image)
but it doesn't show in the active sprint view?
There are no filters (I even deleted the quick filters), I don't see any difference with any of our other projects (which are setup the same way) but the weird thing is, if I assign the issue to myself, then I see it.
