All of a sudden, the 'add gadget' dialog fails to load in our Jira environment (Jira 4.3). When clicking the Add gadget link, the spinner shows up but the dialog is never shown.

The log files of jira show nothing in particular that I could relate to this issue. But in the browser (Chrome) I can see that the following file fails to load: rest/config/1.0/directory.json

Does anybody have a clue what can be wrong?

There seems to be a larger issue with this: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-24979

Could it be because the Jira server doesn't have internet access?

This server can access the internet through a proxy. There is indeed no direct internet connection. But it has been working before, with the same settings.

Can you try to enable direct connection? I'm not shure, but I think Universal Plugin Manager can't work without it :-/ But it's just a assumption

No, unfortunately, I cannot do that. It is our policy to keep servers from accessing the public domain.
