Add short guideline template for composing new work items

Silvia Saric

Hello, when creating a new issue (either a change request or bug), I would like to have a short guideline template like this (IMG). But I cannot seem to find where to either edit this text or add a new one (it currently only exists on change requests but not on bugs issue types). Can anyone of you point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!

Hi @Silvia Saric

To my knowledge this is not possible without using a 3rd party app. If you have access to the apps please check which apps are installed and look for possible configuration options or contact your Jira administrator.

It is possible to add headings to the description field via automations but only after the the work item is created since the automation rule needs to be triggerd by the "Work Item Created".

The following information is added to the Description field:

Let me know if this is of any help!

It's impossible to achieve it without app. For templating issues, you can use Issue Templates Agent for Jira. In the configuration, you can define which fields and on which work types should be prefilled when you create issue. As I see on your screenshot, Information, which you need, can be added to the Description field.

If the author's goal is to add template text to the Description field, vs. displaying it separately as shown in their image, it is most definitely possible to do that without an app.

Team Managed projects support adding default text to the Description field.

For Company Managed projects it requires a work-around using a Custom Field and Automation Rule.

Hello @Silvia Saric

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

What type of project does this concern? You can get that information by clicking on the three dots next to the project name in the sidebar on the left.

You say the text already is shown on one type of issue and you want to show it on another. I would start by looking at the screens of the issue type where it appears to determine what has been added to that issue type. Finding the correct place to look at the layout of the Create screen depends on the project type. When you tell us the project type we can guide you to finding the Create screen.
