Adding More Hierarchy levles on jira board

Hi :)

I use Jira Cloud,

and I want to have the ability to add more hierarchy levels in jira - *not initiative *

but, let say i want user story to be the parent of task and also to visualize it on the active sprint itself- to see for each story the tasks that are child of that story on the scrum board it self (like when using swimlanes).

I tries the add on - "hierarchy for jira" and it can make that kind of hierarchy but can't visualize it on the active sprint itself like I want,

Does anyone, know a way to make it happen?

Regards,

Assaf

Hi @Assaf Eitan - The only way you'll be able to do this is with a 3rd party app like structure.

@Mark Segall  is right, @Assaf Eitan  — specifically, Structure for Jira. :)

But, there are other, similar products you may want to consider, too. Let us know if you need help crafting a relevant Atlassian Marketplace search.

Hey thanks!

I tried to use the structure for Jira, it does work in some way and show me new hierarchy as I like, but it does not show me the hierarchy on the board it self- active sprint.

let say I want to create a new issue type that is between task and story (not subtask) I can visualize it on the structure board but from what I tried I can't see it on the active board for the sprint, if I want to use swimlanes or something like that.

Am I missing somthing on structure?

Unfortunately, you're not going to get what you're looking for on the active sprint board even with structure.  I don't believe Jira provides the necessary APIs for 3rd parties to provide such capability.

It may be best to rethink your hierarchal strategy.  As @Aaron Hayward mentioned, you could be using sub-tasks and get the native capability.  Would you mind sharing why you have this need for additional level of hierarchy below the epic?

Thanks,

Basically I want to have another level of hierarchy between task and user story so that I can group my issues on the active Sprint based on user story and all the tasks that belong to it that is in addition to the sub task relation.

The sub task are used for different use in my project so it's not enough and I need another level of hierarchy.

With Structure, you can create Structure boards, @Assaf Eitan. These can depict the sprints as you want to see them (and take the place of the built-in Scrum or Kanban boards that do not).

It's a little bit of a mind shift, yes, but this is usually what happens in organizations that use Structure.  Frequently, it becomes the primary way teams view and manager their sprints.

The Scrum or Kanban boards may be useful, too, if you find ways to use them with their hierarchical restrictions.

Think about joining an upcoming Structure demo to learn more. You can send a note to structure@almworks.com to learn more about these.

Hope this helps,

Sounds like you are talking about sub-tasks (all link up to the story) and nicely show on the active sprint screen.

I have worked with teams that like to use these, break the story down into sub-tasks and then these proceed through the sprint.
