Adding Workload Chart Person by Person (not Pie)

yosi hatem February 8, 2024

Hey All,

I want to add a workload pie chart, which will show every dev separately.

I do see that there is a Pie Chart for this, but I want to add this on age chart.

Note: I am using "Remaining Estimate and Time Spent" feature of Jira for estimation and current work for each task. Unfortunately, I don't see measuring gadgets that relates to it.

This leaves me without measuring and I can't understand how overloaded each person is.

Any ideas or workaround?

Thanks in advance

Hi @yosi hatem ,

You can try Reports - Charts and Graphs for Jira Dashboard app developed by our team to create various reports, charts and graphs for your Jira projects.

If you are looking for a completely free solution, you can try the limited but the free version Reports - Charts and Graphs for Jira Dashboard Free.

Here is a sample report that shows sum of remaining estimate by assignee in current sprint.

Hi @yosi hatem

I suggest you take a look at ActivityTimeline plugin for it.

For example, a Resource Utilization Report helps you manage and plan your team’s workload so that your employees are neither overworked nor underworked. It's not a pie chart, but generating these meaningful reports is easy – simply select the relevant data, apply filters and you’re ready to go!

Got any questions or if you think a free demo session would be helpful, we'd be thrilled to set that up for you.

Hi @yosi hatem

It's Mary from Planyway for Jira: workload, roadmapping, time tracking and reporting

To achieve the visualization of workload distribution among developers in Jira, especially when utilizing the "Remaining Estimate and Time Spent" feature for task management, you can consider a combination of Jira's native functionalities and potential integrations with other tools or custom solutions. Here are some ideas and workarounds:

1. Jira Dashboards and Gadgets

Jira offers customizable dashboards where you can add various gadgets to visualize data. While there might not be a direct gadget that matches your exact requirements, you can use a combination of gadgets or explore ways to customize them.

  • Workload Pie Chart: Although there's a pie chart gadget, it might not directly apply to "Remaining Estimate and Time Spent". You could use this gadget with different fields that might indirectly reflect workload, such as issues assigned to each developer.
  • Filter Results Gadget: Create filters that show issues based on the remaining time or time spent and add these filters as gadgets on your dashboard. This method won't provide a pie chart but can offer a list view to gauge workload.

2. JQL Queries

Use Jira Query Language (JQL) to create specific filters that target your requirements. For example, you can create filters that show tasks with remaining hours or time spent for each developer. These filters can then be used in conjunction with dashboard gadgets.

3. Marketplace Apps

Jira's Marketplace contains numerous apps that extend the functionality of Jira's dashboards and reporting capabilities. Look for apps that offer advanced reporting, time tracking, or resource management features. Some apps are specifically designed to provide detailed insights into team workload, time spent, and remaining estimates like Planyway.

4. Custom Development

  • Jira API: If you have development resources available, you can utilize the Jira API to fetch data related to remaining estimates and time spent. Then, use this data to create custom reports or visualizations that fit your needs.
  • External Tools: Tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Google Sheets can be used to create advanced visualizations. You can export data from Jira or use APIs to fetch data directly into these tools and then create a pie chart that shows workload per developer based on "Remaining Estimate and Time Spent".

Thanks for your answer.

This is exactly what I am doing.

Using JQL for filtration and using gadgets. The problem is, I am very very limited with gadgets and I have only a workload pie chart. I don't have a different view and even pie chart is very very limited with it's settings

Marketplace apps is an option but it cost money so :(
