Advanced measurement (KPIs, Cycle Time, etc.) with Jira

Dylan Hebb April 6, 2020

I am looking to track advanced metrics within Jira in a dashboard time format. The types of metrics I am looking to track are:

  • Cycle time
  • Burndown by number of tasks remaining
  • Status lead time (time in each status)
  • Thoughput

We already use Jira dashboards. They're incredibly limiting on the amount of information you can gather, however. So we basically manually record metrics from the control chart, some from gadgets in dashboards, and then put them into our dashboard. With CSV export from Jira, you can't get individual status lead time or cycle time, just overall lead time for the ticket.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experience using an advanced Jira dashboard plugin, another SaaS product, or any other method to automate this process?

Hello Dylan,

Out team at OBSS built Time in Status app for this exact need. Using Time in Status you can:

  • Report on how much time each issue spent on each status, assignee, user group and more.
  • Get reports based on 24/7 calendar or define custom work calendars accoring to your working days and hours.
  • Get averages of durations grouped by issue field(s) you select.
  • Export all report data as XLS, XLSX or CSV.
  • Get data via REST API for integrations and automations.

We will soon be introducing the column consolidation feature for Jira Server which allows the user to consolidate multiple statuses into a single report column, especially useful for calculating metrics like Cycle Time, Lead Time, etc.
