Any way to copy a regular workflow and make into subtask?

I'm trying to change our workflow and instead of separate issue types and just linking, want to  create subtasks. To do so, need to use some existing regular workflows and change that to a subtask and create a template.

Any easy way to do this?

Also, I tried subtasks on a task and once the subtasks are completed, they no longer show up on the task. So the only way I can have the links remain and show them as closed is only by story issue type?
