EASY SOLUTION TO NOT DISPLAYING MAX WIP LIMTS
Once you add a certain number of columns to your board, Jira no longer displays the Max WIP limit (Max:4) due to space constraints. It does however display a number in a red box if you go over the Max WIP Limit, demonstrating their is an alternative to displaying "Max:4". Taking the same concept, you could display the Max WIP limit in a green box, then change the box to red when the Max WIP limit is exceeded. You could even change the green box to a green circle so color blind people can tell the difference between when the Max WIP limit is exceeded. When used properly, WIP limits are a critical part of optimizing the flow of work. Not being able to see them is a big problem. You already have the solution, it just needs a little tweak.
Hi @Eric Bobo,
I didn't know about this limitation of Jira. As far as I can see, there is an open ticket https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-26132 for something similar, but I don't know if it's for exactly the same case. Maybe up-voting this ticket or commenting would make Atlassian fix the problem. Or, why not, creating a new bug for this specific case.
Meanwhile, you could search for a plugin on Atlassian Marketplace that provides better boards or better visualization of the existing boards.
In case you want to try a plugin, our Great Gadgets app offers a Team Wallboard gadget, which can display the board contents along with the WIP limits and signals when the limits are exceeded. But this would be only for visualization. The card colors can be customized.
Hope this helps.
Danut.
If you hover over the number it could say what it is.
Good note for color blind access, appreciated
