Are the components necessary for version creation and velocity monitoring

We are planning to add component to our Jira project is it helpful or not for velocity calculation and version fixing.

Hello Greta,

They are helpful for clasification and with that clasification reporting. But they are in no way involved with the velocity or version fixing. More involved with those things are the Epics, which have reports. 

But componentes are just a good way of sorting your issues.
