Are there war/ear files that can be used to install/update Jira and/or confluence?

Deleted user May 19, 2018

Hey guys,

I'm trying to find installation packages for Jira and Confluence, but I have just found .bin files that will install a Java Web Applications server plus the WebApps, not just the WebApp as I already have a Java Web Applications Server and I don't want to have more than one running on the same server.

I also found zip and tar.gz files, but they don't contain war or ear files, instead the have everything in them too.

Do any of you know how I can do that?

Thanks.

Hey Jorge,

Atlassian used to produce war files for installation on Solaris/pre-existing Java application server environments. However they stopped doing this with Jira 7.0 and the latest Confluence release around that time - this would have been roughly 2.5 years ago.

The official recommendation is to use the bin file so the "right" version of Tomcat is paired with the actual Atlassian application you're installing. It wasn't recommended to have multiple Atlassian applications in the same application server even when war/ear files were available anyway, so not distributing them anymore was just an extension of that recommendation. There's a lot going on under the hood and using the bundled application server is the best way to make sure everything is working like it should.

I can understand not wanting to run multiple application servers on the same box. If virtualization is available to you, maybe separate VMs for Jira and Confluence would be something you want to pursue.

Cheers,
Daniel
