Atlassian-connect report-module not available in next-gen projects?

I'm currently writing a atlassian-connect plugin that is calculating process efficiency according to this paper

While the report works for regular projects, I cannot figure out how to provide a report for a next-gen project, and the documentation does not hint at how to do it:

Are custom reports really not supported yet by next-gen projects?

No, I think it is not supported at the moment. I think they require different types of reports which have not been added to the documentation yet.

There are other places where you could hook into, like the project sidebar or as a project page. It's not ideal, but it should easily convert into a report, once the feature becomes available.
