Hi @rtamam

The issue you're experiencing, where a user is automatically assigned to the two default groups (Jira SM and Confluence), could stem from a few possible configurations within your Jira and Confluence instance.

1. Default Group Assignment Rules
Reason: Jira/Confluence configurations may have default group assignments based on specific project roles. This could be the case if your instance has automation or default permissions linked to user creation or specific workflows.
Solution: Check the default group settings in your Jira and Confluence administration panels. There may be settings that automatically assign new users to specific groups. You can modify these settings in:
Jira: Jira settings > System > User Management > Default Group
Confluence: Confluence Admin > User Management > Default Groups
Adjust these settings to avoid automatic assignment to the Jira Service Management (Jira SM) and Confluence groups.

2. Product Access Configuration
Reason: In Jira/Confluence Cloud, when a user is granted access to a product (Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence), they might automatically be assigned to corresponding default groups related to those products.

Solution: Go to the Product Access section in Jira/Confluence Cloud to review and modify the permissions and product access settings for users. You might need to customize product access to prevent automatic group assignment.

Jira Admin: Jira Admin > Products > Product Access

Confluence Admin: Confluence Admin > User Management > Product Access

Please let me know if this works for you.

Thanks,
Amar
