Automatic Team Assignment for Work Items

Hi Everyone,

Is there a native functionality in JIRA that automatically links a Work Item to a 'Team' when creating this work item? Example: I am part of Team X, I create a work item, the Team field automatically takes the value Team X. Just to clarify: I'm referring to the Teams pinned in the left sidebar.

If not, is this planned for future Atlassian releases ?

Awaiting for your reply.

Best regards,

Nathalie

Hello @nathalie_talis

A user can be a member of multiple Teams. Given that it would be challenging to have an out of the box feature that could decide which Team to select in such a case.

Here is a KB on how to use Automation Rules to accomplish what you want. It references the Assignee, but you could modify it to reference Reporter.

@nathalie_talis

There are a few ways to provide Atlassian with change request feedback.

But first, review their public backlog to see if a comparable suggestion already exists.

https://jira.atlassian.com/secure/Dashboard.jspa

1. Open a support case with Atlassian through https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/

2. Use the Help > Feedback option in Jira.

Note that creating the suggestion doesn't put it on the their roadmap. It only adds it to their backlog for consideration.

Hi @Trudy Claspill , Hi @Tuncay Senturk _Snapbytes_

Many thanks for your answers

We had already studied the solution consisting of setting up an automation rule. However, we thought there was a native feature that allowed this action to be performed.

Where can I create a suggestion ticket on Atlassian's roadmap?

Best regards,

Nathalie

Hi @nathalie_talis

You can achieve it by using Automation Rules as @Trudy Claspill mentioned.

However, I suggest checking out the free app SnapAssign. It's specifically designed to assist with smart assignments based on teams, schedules, and other rules. It allows you to simply define rules for your teams, and whenever an issue is created or updated, it automatically selects the relevant team for the work item and assigns it to the available team member based on the chosen method (round-robin, load-based). I'm part of the SnapAssign team, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need help setting it up!
