I'm trying to make an automation where when an issue is linked (outward) to another issues, all children of the issue are also linked to the same issue. We also have a custom hierarchy so this may need 2 automations. I cannot find a jira smart value that allows me to do this.
Project 1 parent-child:
Project 2 parent-child:
The user makes this link:
Mammal-1 is inside of Room-1
or
Room-1 contains Mammal-1
I need the automation to make these links:
Dog-1 is inside of Room-1
Epic-1 is inside of Room-1
Story-1 is inside of Room-1
Help:
Hello @April_Delay
Do you still need help with this?
I notice that your post tags indicate you are using the Premium subscription. When you say you have a custom hierarchy, did you define the hierarchy at the system level?
And are you creating the parent/child relationships through an Advanced Roadmap Plan? Or are you using generic issue linking functionality?
For your contains/is inside of link, which of those is the Inward Description and which one is the Outward Description?
Hi Trudy,
No, we never were able to figure this one out.
We do have the hierarchy at the system level, and we are using the parent/child relationship through roadmaps.
contains - Inward
is inside of - outward

Is the link always created between the same levels; the Mammals and Room levels? Or might you create the link between different levels on each side?
Is it correct to assume that you need to link all the "Dogs" under the Mammal, and all the Epics under the Dogs, and all the Stories under the Epics?
