Diego Villagra December 28, 2022

When the installation bin script on Linux64 binaries creates a backup, where is the destination folder for that backup?

Hi Diego,

When upgrading Jira using the Linux binary, the installer will place a ZIP archive in the respective parents of the install and home directories if you opt to perform a backup.

For example, the default directories for Jira on Linux are:

  • Installation: /opt/atlassian/jira
  • Home: /var/atlassian/application-data/jira

Your backups will be located at:

  • Installation: /opt/atlassian/jira-OLD-VERSION-back.zip
  • Home: /var/atlassian/application-data/jira-OLD-VERSION-back.zip

As a reminder, these backups do not include database content. I highly recommend you back up your database before upgrading by following the Jira Backup Guide. I also encourage you to consult the complete upgrade guide, which includes a pre-upgrade checklist.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Best regards,

Ben
