Better options for release management

Charles Liss February 7, 2022

We use the basic Jira release management with email to communicate when a release is available to customers.  The challenges we face are with phased releases and actually being able to communicate to downstream parties a release is on its way but not complete yet.  I dream of a "Rollout" option someday....but since the Jira release tools are basic and without customization does anyone have a good suggestion or plugin to help manage this?

Thank you both for the suggestions.  Some if the challenge can be solved with process updates but unfortunately, I don't think either is a solution to my specific challenge.  We already have a good internal release not process but people would like to see a central Jira solution and nothing available so far seems to handle the rollout situation in a natural way.

The releases feature of Jira simply needs a rollout or canceled status and or the ability to inject custom statuses.

Hi @Charles Liss

Trust you are well.

If you up to Partner Apps we suggest to try out Release Management and Roadmaps for Jira that includes more advanced functionality on top of Jira standard release management. You might explore options to plan, orchestrate and deliver cross-project releases, share the status with wider audience via integrations with Slack, Teams, etc., or create Jira Dashboard with our extensive library of Gadgets, also generate intermediate reports, pre-release notes as well as release notes for various audiences and stakeholders.

Feel free to contact our support team for quick demo.

Many thanks & Kind regards,

Yuri.

@Charles Liss this is the same problem we strive to address with our app - automated release notes for Jira. While there are multiple apps that can generate something like a release notes document (e.g. scriptrunner), ARN takes this to a whole new level.

Right from the release notes content generation to distribution, everything can be automated and customized to match your procedural needs.

If you are on cloud, you also have the option of evaluating the free app of ARN.

Do give it a try.

Disclaimer: I am the product owner of this app Automated release notes for Jira.

Best,

Anand

Hi @Charles Liss

I do not know if the solution that I propose you can like or be useful to you, but for example, every time you make the releases, as JIRA creates the release note, you can with it send an email to the interested parties so that they can see it and observe all the issues that have been deployed

It would be to analyze if you could even carry out an automation so that said mail will be generated automatically

You can also update a page in confluence with the different links of the release notes so that all interested parties have at their disposal the dates, the release notes and all the information of each one of them, I usually do it and at the moment all the interested parties they are quite satisfied

Cheers
