×I am trying to build my own reports. Jira provides several standard project management agile based reports but for example the Burndown chart is based all 3 open, in progress and done. I'd like to be able to visualize the burndown based on MY board's statuses.
Another example is the Cumulative Flow Diagram. The issue is I can't apply a filter to it and it's pulling all the tickets from all time.
I've checked permissions and I can't find anything that would indicate I shouldn't have the ability to create my own reports and charts based on my own filters, but I am at a loss. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
Hi @Kevin Ryan 👋
Jira’s built-in reports (like Burndown or CFD) can feel restrictive since they often don’t let you customize filters or focus on specific statuses. Here are a few approaches you can take:
1. Use Jira filters with Dashboard gadgets
Create JQL filters for your exact statuses or timeframes.
Add gadgets like Filter Results, Two-Dimensional Filter Statistics, or Created vs Resolved Chart to your Jira Dashboard.
This way you get burndown-like or cumulative-style reporting but based only on your defined filters.
2. Explore Marketplace apps for deeper customization
If you need fully custom burndown or flow reports:
Time Metrics Tracker | Time Between Statuses (developed by my team) lets you measure Cycle Time, Lead Time, Time to Market, and more based on your chosen status transitions.
It provides gadgets like Agile Metrics, Scatter Plot and Histogram, where you can apply filters (project, sprint, assignee, labels, etc.) to get very targeted views.
You can even set custom time metrics, for example, to calculate only time between In Progress → Done or any other statuses relevant to your workflow.
3. Export for further analysis (if needed)
If you want advanced manipulation, export filtered data into CSV/XLS from a gadget like Time Metrics Tracker, then visualize it in Excel or BI tools.
Hi @Kevin Ryan
If you do not mind using a third-party app, you can build custom reports with eazyBI.
In the reports, you can specify which transition statuses your project/team considers relevant. You can also choose what you want to see in the burndown, issue count, story points, or estimated hours.
You are welcome to check out several report examples in the eazyBI Demo account: https://eazybi.com/accounts/1000/dashboards/5956-sprints-overview.
In the eazyBi, you can build a Cumulative flow diagram using the standard status categories or handpicked statuses. Please see this article: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/App-Central-articles/14-Report-of-the-Week-Cumulative-Flow-Diagram/ba-p/2911507.

Hi @Kevin Ryan,
Unfortunately, these Jira reports don't allow you to use custom statuses or JQL. But, as already advised, you can look for a plugin (app) on the Atlassian Marketplace that is capable of doing so.
If you are willing to try a plugin, our Great Gadgets app offers all you need for tracking your agile projects in the way you want.
For example, the Sprint Burdown Burnup Chart gadget lets you configure custom done statuses to map YOUR statuses.
In addition, on its Data tab, it offers a sprint report similar to the one of Jira, which will be based on your statuses.
In the same time, the Cumulative Flow Diagram gadget lets you specify your own filter or JQL and offers many other flexible settings.
To make a better idea about these gadgets (and the many others offered by this app that will help you replace Jira reports completely), have also a look over these articles:
