This should be simple, but I can't figure it out.

I just need to calculate the total work estimates for the issues on our Kanban board.

Specifically, the totals for the field called "Original Work Estimate".   Here's a screenshot of the list view for our board.

I don't care where the total appears - I'm fine with having it displayed on a dashboard widget.  I just need to see the total.

Hi @paul -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Please try using the built-in Time Tracking Report; that can sum the original estimate values.

If you need something different, please investigate:

  • a marketplace addon, such as a dashboard gadget to sum fields
  • writing a simple automation rule to sum the fields, and perhaps send an email / message with the result

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi @paul,

Welcome to the community!

I'm afraid that Jira cannot do this with its default tools. You could try the report mentioned by Bill, but most likely you will need plugin from an Atlassian Marketplace.

If you consider the idea of using a plugin, you could have a look over our Great Gadgets app, which offers some gadgets capable to calculate and display this in various forms.

Issue Filter Formula gadget or the Advanced Issue Filter Formula gadget can calculate the sum of Original Work Estimate as well as percentages and other key-numbers.

Pivot Table & Pivot Chart gadget can calculate the totals and split it by multiple fields. The data can be displayed in form of a table, heatmap table or charts.

All you have to do is to configure them with a filter/JQL that returns the issues from your board and to calculate the SUM of the "Original Work Estimate" field.

In you have any questions and need help with the configuration, feel free to contact us at support@stonikbyte.com.

Welcome to the community, @paul.

I am Marlene, product manager of Quick Filters for Jira Dashboards.

Our app comes with a variety of Quick Gadgets that are able to sum up estimation fields and any other Jira number field.

On top of that you can dynamically filter all Quick Gadgets using the Quick Controller gadget.

You can try out Quick Filters for Jira Dashboards without installation on our demo dashboards.
