Can I customize the number of months in the Velocity Chart?

I recently noticed that the number of months available on the Velocity Chart has increased from 7 to 12. Is it possible to customize this?

Hi @Patané ,

Unfortunately, it's not possible to customize it. And actually, these are primarily sprints; they become months if you have month-long sprints.

You can try the app I developed - Multi-team Scrum Metrics & Retrospective - to display many more sprints. You can even display not only sprints, but also months, quarters, half-years, or years.

With the app, you also can:

  • Track any custom metric constructed using JQL across any periods - sprints, months, quarters, half-years or years for multiple teams in a single view.
  • Conduct in-place retrospectives
  • Compare metrics between teams or periods
  • Identify, quantify, and prioritize reasons behind mediocre performance, and easily justify budget allocation for improvements
  • View dynamics between the current and previous periods
  • View % of a metric relative to Initial or Final Scope. Average of metrics for the selected periods

and much more.

Best regards,
Alexey

Hi @Patané,

Unfortunately the Jira's Velocity Report cannot be customized to display more than 7 sprints.

A potential solution would be search on Atlassian Marketplace for a plugin that provides a report or dashboard gadget capable to display more sprints.

If you consider the idea of using  a plugin, our Great Gadgets app offers a Team Velocity gadget that lets you display as many sprints as you want and offers more metrics comparing to the Jira's report (e.g. scope changes, % completion, etc)

It offers a Data tab with a detailed report, so it can be a great alternative to this Jira report.

Hi @Patané

If you would be interested in a mktplace app for this requirement, pls do take a look at
Agile Velocity & Status Gadgets

The app comes with few dashboard gadgets to track team member's / team's velocity / productivity based on story points / time spent / issue count in a sprint  and also track sprint status with multiple parameters. The app works for past / closed sprints too and can be used to display more than 7 sprints data.

Disclaimer : I am part of the team which developed this app

Hi @Patané

As others have pointed out, the built-in Jira velocity chart can't be customized. As another option, you can consider eazyBI - https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1211051/eazybi-reports-and-charts-for-jira?tab=overview&hosting=cloud.

In eazyBI, you can create reports across multiple Boards and decide how many Sprints you want to view from each Board. And you can limit the view to a single board. Please see an example on the eazyBI Demo account - https://eazybi.com/accounts/1000/cubes/Issues/reports/61946-sprint-velocity-chart.

You can view other examples in the Dashboards - https://eazybi.com/accounts/1000/dashboards/16272-agile.

Kind regards,

Hi @Patané

While Jira doesn't offer a built-in setting to customize the number of sprints displayed in the Velocity Chart, there are alternative solutions.

  • You can create a custom velocity report using a specific time range, such as months, weeks, or a defined number of sprints.
  • Besides that, third-party tools like eazyBI, Agile Velocity Chart Gadget, or other apps from the Atlassian Marketplace provide the flexibility to configure and customize the Velocity Chart.

These tools enable you to select specific sprints or timeframes, display data for more than 7 or 12 sprints, and filter by custom JQL, epics, or releases.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards
