I'm trying to use a custom number field called "AI Actual Effort" in the Two-Dimensional Filter Statistics gadget on a dashboard in Jira Cloud.

However, the field is not showing up in the X-axis or Y-axis dropdown, even though it’s used in the issues returned by my filter.

  • Field type: Custom Number Field

  • Jira Product: Jira Software Cloud

  • Gadget: Two-Dimensional Filter Statistics

  • Goal: I want to group issues by something like "Issue Type" vs. "AI Actual Effort" or at least see totals by effort buckets.

❓ Questions:

  1. Is there any way to make number fields appear in the gadget axes?

  2. Is this limitation specific to custom number fields?

  3. Any official documentation or Atlassian confirmation would also help, as I need to explain this to internal users.

CC @John Funk  i hope you help

Hi @Sudarsana G,

Unfortunately, Jira’s native Two-Dimensional Filter Statistics gadget only supports system or custom fields with predefined options (like single/multi-select, cascading select, Fix Versions, Assignee, Reporter, etc.). It doesn’t support number fields because they could create infinite buckets, defeating the purpose of a summarized tabular report.

For your use case, I’d recommend switching to a select field with limited options to capture effort, something like T-shirt sizes or story points (using a Fibonacci series). This approach would let you leverage the native dashboard gadget effectively.
