We thought that Jira would automatically track time spent on an issue as it sat in the To Do or other such workflow option. Or at the very least when it was set to Done that the estimated time would just finish. This seems to not be the case, at least automatically and I'm wondering if there is a way to not have every manually have to log there time spent?
Hi Jason,
We use this great app for this:
Hope this helps

Hi @Jason Dahl,
you might not be able to do so out-of-the-box. However, I'd like to suggest having a look at Jira Workflow Toolbox. It provides, for example, a dedicated Log work post function that can be configured to automatically use the time difference between statuses etc.
Best regards,
Thorsten

Yes, I've seen this. Just hoped Jira actually had a way without 3rd party apps and extra costs. Seems this time tracking is in some ways the point of the Jira Agile software.

Hi @Jason Dahl,
In the workflow configuration, you can modify the post function to automatically calculate the remaining workload to 0 when the issue is closed.

Thank you for the response. This isn't exactly what I meant. I wanted a way to start a timer of sorts when an issue is in progress.
This option just makes your estimate the logged work but does nothing to keep track of how long something really took.
