Our company recently started increasing the number for swimlanes from max 5 or so to like 18.  We have now started to notice slowness and even locked up where they have to restart the server.   Can having all these swimlanes be the cause?

Hello @Miles Cameron,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Sounds like the JIRA instance is facing some performance issue. The main cause would be the resources are not enough for the instance to run properly. You can refer to Jira Sizing Guide to check if the size of your JIRA instance is getting the suggested amount of resources or not.

Kind regards,
Irfan

but if you are on Cloud then you should contact Atlassian Support since you cannot control the resources.

I would be surprised if this were the cause of any significant slowdown but it is (or should be) a simple matter to disable temporarily so you could test the theory.
