Can someone explain to me what post function assign to role member does?

Hi,

I do not understand what the post function "Assign to role member" does. Let' suppose that I select new role "Environment Managers" as the function project role. The default member of this role is "john", but in my project the role members are "martin" and "richard" ("john" is not a member). The function description says: Assign the issue to the default user from the Environment managers role. What is the meaning of "default user", does it mean "default member"? How can I mark "richard" as default user?
