Can't transition status to final status when subtasks exists

I have a custom workflow that has a subtask workflow as well.

If I have a story with no subtasks I can transition the status to the next workflow status or to the final status of closed.

When I add a subtask I can no longer transition the story to closed from any status.  This is true even if the subtask is done.

How do I configure jira to allow a parent issue to transition to the final status with subtasks?

Can you please share a screenshot of your Conditions area of the workflow for that Close transition? Maybe there is some miss configuration with one of the conditions there

I found my answer, this can be configured in the conditions tab of transitions.
