Cannot group by epics anymore

Marcelo Gomes

Since the last Jira update, my team can no longer group our board by epic, which has essentially made the board unusable for us.

I've also noticed that epics no longer appear in the backlog epic panel or on the roadmap, even though the epic cards still exist and are visible as parent issues.

Does anyone know how to resolve this? Jira doesn’t allow me to create a support ticket because I’m on the free tier, even though this seems like a bug on their end.

Thanks in advance for any help!

It turns out it was indeed a bug. I had to upgrade to standard tier to get it solved, some internal database had being misconfigured and had to be reset. After the configuration was reset everything went back to normal.

Hello, @Marcelo Gomes ! Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

I ran some tests and this is what I saw:

1. When there is at least one Epic created in my project, the option Group by Epic is available

2. When there are no Epics created, the option is not available

3. If I change my board filter so it does not return any epics, even if there are created epics in my project, the option "Group by" is not available either.

If you have created epics in your project, I would recommend checking your board filter to make sure epics are included in the filter.

Hey @Marcelo Gomes

I'm also on the free plan and the option is there for me:

Interestingly I removed the Epic work type from my project and the option disappeared. So you may want to check the work types in your project to make sure that hasn't happend.

Thanks

Aaron.

Unfortunately, that was not the case for me, epic is a type in my project, I can see the epic cards as the parents in my issues and also I can access them in full screen if I type the right address, but they won't show up anywhere else after the update.

Before the update it was just like yours.

I just readded the epic issuetype to my board and the option did not reappear.

I created a new epic, and the option did not reappear.

Once I gave and issue the epic as it's parent the option returned again.

Try creating a new test epic and assigning it an issue see if they kicks something into gear. Probably won't work but worth a shot.
