Cascading Select List queries

I used this filed first time and got below queries -

1. I made field mandatory in workflow though it doesn't give error if only parent field is filed and child field is left blank.

2. How do we clear a value from a custom field? I used post function 'Clear field value' in workflow but while opening the issue, getting error as below -

"Unable to update custom field customfield - <field name> in issue <issuekey>

It seems that you have tried to perform an illegal workflow operation."

Please suggest.

Hi Girish,

With regard to your first question, Jira is only able to validate the first entry in the cascade list.  A feature request JRASERVER-10302 was raised for this behavior, but has been closed due to higher priority items taking precedent.  Having said that, several users have posted ways to accomplish this with add-ons like ScriptRunner(see the last two comments on that page).

With regard to the clearing of a field on transition, is that something you're attempting to accomplish with Jira Suite Utilities? I was able to use the Clear Field Value (JSU) post-function to clear the contents of a cascade select custom field upon transitioning an issue successfully.  If you're using another add-on to achieve this let me know though.

Thanks for information Shaun,

I'm using post-function feature in workflow transition where we have a clear value option. I tried update value option as well for setting 'None' but it didn't work either.
