Changing the Owner of A Board

Valerie Liarikos May 25, 2016

I am trying to change the owner of the board. The original owner is no longer here and when a ticket is created it gets assigned to said person. I can add myself to administrators, but that doesn't seem to change anything.

I am guessing the owner of the filter for the board is the owner. I have copied the filters and renamed them, but I am unsure what share settings the copied filters need and the steps I need to take to make sure nothing crazy happens. Any information you guys have is appreciated!

As you said, the owner of the filter is the closest to the "owner" of the board, even though a board's admin is a wholly different concept.

But what you're trying to change is the default assignee. That has nothing to do with the board. That configuration is at Project level most probably (it could be in a workflow post-function, but I won't go into that for now).

Most likely scenario: Your original owner was the Project Lead, and the default assignee is set at Project Lead. You can change these configs in the projects Administration section, under Roles.

As for shares, I nearly always share a filter to All users from the project whose issues are contained in the board. That way, project admins can pick and choose who gets to see the board by adding/removing them from project roles (assuming your permission scheme grant user permissions based on Project Roles).

That makes the most sense. the people who can view/work on the board's issue are the same people who can see the board. Doing it like this also avoid the possibility of nonsensical situation where a user can see the board, but not the issues because the filter is shared to people with no permissions.

Also, you can administratively change the owner of a shared filter or dashboard from:

JIRA ADMINISTRATION / System / SHARED ITEMS / Shared Filters

and

JIRA ADMINISTRATION / System / SHARED ITEMS / Shared Dashboards

(The point being, there is no need to copy/rename the filters, etc, when a board owner is no longer available).

Thanks this looks like it will work! I just want to ensure the filter remains the same
