Changing the Task/ Defect workflow

I want to change the existing workflow of my defects screen. I have a couple of questions.

  1. Will it modify my existing bugs to work inline with the new workflow ?
  2. What if I delete one of the status of the existing workflow in the new flow ? how will the ticket behave ? will it move to the originated status "Open" or "Assigned" or other wise.

Please share your thoughts!

Hello Akash,

1. after changing the workflow for specific issue type, all issues will follow new selected workflow.

2. If you delete one of the statuses, the system will prompt you to select a new status for those tickets in deleted status. Keep in mind you can not delete the status from "active" workflow. You need to create a copy of the workflow and then assign to a workflow scheme.

I would first suggest you to never delete a workflow or status, instead of that create a copy of it, modify the things that you need and replace with the new workflow.

Now answering your question:

When you replace your current workflow to a new one with different statuses, if Jira identify that there is an open issue with a status that will be removed after the replacement, it will guide you to move the open issues in that condition to a new status from the new workflow.

Hi Akash,

When you modify your workflow the last step will be to migrate your current issues in those statuses to any of the remaining statuses. So, when you publish the workflow, you must move your issues out of any status that is getting deleted (it will guide you).
