Comment" Field Appearing in Create/Edit Screens After Adding a Custom Field

Hello Atlassian Community,

I’m facing an issue with Jira's Create/Edit issue screens. I recently added a custom field called "Performance Report" to the Create and Edit screens for a specific issue type. However, I’m now seeing an unexpected "Comment" field appear on these screens, as shown in the screenshot below.

Steps Taken:

  1. Navigated to Jira Settings > Screens and added the "Performance Report" field to the Create/Edit screen.
  2. Verified that the field is displayed correctly.
  3. However, when I go to create or edit the issue, I see the "Comment" field appear unexpectedly. This was not present before adding the custom field.

Hi @Tharunkumar B 

 

The comments are not a field, they are a system function, not part of a screen.

They will only be offered for entry if the user has "comment on issue" permission on the issue.  So if you don't want people commenting, turn off their permission to do so.

The short answer is that you cannot remove the comment field. The comment field will always be added to an edit and transition screen.
