Create board columns through API

We are creating our Jira projects using the APIs available, but for some reason there is one area which is not covered (as far as I can see). How do we create board columns through the API? It is the only step that remains for us to completely remove the need for manual manipulation when creating projects.

That is not possible yet; you may only read the existing column configuration.  Here is the suggestion to add/change columns to a board configuration: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-20535

Did some checking on this, couldn't find any api for this. Maybe there isn't one yet.

In this boards REST API doc https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/jira/software/rest/api-group-board/ couldn't find anything on creating columns.
