Create sub tasks automatically when a EPIC --> Story/Task are created

Paulo_Cerqueira September 22, 2025

Hi community, I would be verry happy if someone could help me with this puzzle. :-)

I created the automation where Stories / Tasks are automatically created once the epic transitions to a determined status.

Now I need to create SUBTASKs once these Stories / Task are automatically created.

The idea is to have a cascade of issues being create triggered by the EPIC transition.

1 --> EPIC transition to IN PROGRESS

2 --> A set of STORY/TASK are then created

3 --> SUB-TASK are created under these STORIES/TASKS

I have created this automation; (which only works when I create the story manually)

Hi @Paulo_Cerqueira , thanks for your post.

I got a similar rule to work this way. I think what you are missing is this last checkbox on the Rule details page to allow for this rule to be triggered by another automation.

So, I created another Automation where, when I create an Epic, to create two Stories. When I created an Epic, the two Stories were created and then their creation called this rule which created two Sub-tasks in each one.

Is that what you wanted?

I created a short Loom as well to show you exactly what I did and how it works - https://www.loom.com/share/de2132be7f9e4f5d87e52b4951768335?sid=1ccf4791-68b5-4eb5-a899-6697a5b6d282

Have a look and let me know what you think or if you need more help.

Cheers

That is amazing @Valerie Knapp , you saved my day.

I knew it was something easy to do as my setting was working for manually created story.

But do you know what? This check box was just on the bottom of my page, a little scroll down would have saved me hours of work.

Much appreciated your help today.
