Creating Epic level issue type

Is there a way to create additional customized issue types that have the same behavior as an Epic?

Hey Shirley,

                   If you are looking for Higher level, you can try Portfolio for JIRA plugin which has Initiatives/Epics/Story which when configured and pushed  into JIRA you can have Sub-Task feature as well 

If you are only looking in JIRA proper then the answer is "No" to your question.

Unfortunately not as Epic is hard-coded in to the system along with versions.
