Creating a new JIRA board based upon an already created Project

Roger Davidson

I have to create two new boards. A scheduling board and a work flow board. I created the 1st new board based upon an already created project. The problem is, issues already created on another board with-in the same project are showing up on the new board I just created. Am I doing something wrong? If I am heading in the correct direction can I just delete all of the issues that have been created on another board under the same project?

Thanks, Roger

Hold on!

I’m not totally clear about what you are trying to accomplish, but if you delete issues they are deleted from ALL boards which I don’t think is your intention.

Just to be clear:

  1. A project is a collection of issues.
  2. A board is a way to interact with a group of issues.
  3. The issues in a board are determined by a filter query (which is often just “all the issues in this project” but could be anything)
  4. It’s quite alright to  show an issue in more than one board and you can delete boards without affecting the underlying issues. But deleting issues removes them completely - from the project and from ALL boards

I suspect you have created a board based on the “all issues in the project” filter so you are seeing the same issues as the pre-existing board (point 3, above).

You need to figure out what issues should appear on each board and then create a filter query which returns those issues  but don’t delete an issue in one board and expect it to remain on the other!
