Creating a test environment without customer issues

We are able to export and import into a paid test environment, but I'm curious about the customer impacts if any. I understand we would load in and then inactive all users from test, but I don't see guidance about the customers. See https://confluence.atlassian.com/confeval/other-atlassian-evaluator-resources/atlassian-cloud-staging-and-testing-environment for instructions on creating a test environment.

Can the import happen without bringing in the issues? If not, how do you suggest we remove all of the imported issues so that our customers aren't accidentally pinged about their "test" issues?

Can the import happen without bringing in the customers?

Will my customers be notified of their issues being created through the import?

Are there any other customer impacts to be aware of when creating a test environment using an active production environment (9k issues)?

Hi @Shannon ,

We launched the first iteration of our cloud sandboxes for our Premium and Enterprise plans back in November 2020. Official documentation can be found here.

To answer your questions:

  1. Can the import happen without bringing in the issues? If not, how do you suggest we remove all of the imported issues so that our customers aren't accidentally pinged about their "test" issues?

Not at the moment. Our current implementation of site importing and data copying carries over the issues along with the configuration settings. I'm assuming by "customers", you're referring to users and groups? If so, these are copied over but no notifications are sent to them so they won't be accidentally pinged about any test issues.

  2. Can the import happen without bringing in the customers?
Unfortunately no. Here is a breakdown of what gets migrated over with the current Jira site import: https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/what-gets-migrated-with-jira-site-import-979415710.html.

  3. Will my customers be notified of their issues being created through the import?

Nope, customers are not notified of these issues being created through the import.

  4. Are there any other customer impacts to be aware of when creating a test environment using an active production environment (9k issues)?

Aside from being aware of what gets copied over and what doesn't (see my response to #2), there shouldn't be any other customer impact.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Matt
