Creating new gadgets - Jira 4.4

is this even an option? Some of the gadgets that come pre-packaged in our hosted Jira instance (v4.4) come close to the information we need but aren't quite there. I'd like to be able to create my own, I know the functionality to do so exists but can't seem to find any reference to it in the official documentation. Would love pointers if anyone has any.

The OnDemand platform is a bit restrictive in this functionality. Currently the restricted functions and plugin policy prevent the customization you are looking for. That being said, we are looking to include additional functionality with each new update release, but I don't see anything to report for the near future.

Is there a public log of things the Atlassian dev team is currently working on, or are planned for the next OnDemand release (also, when OnDemand Jira is getting updated to a later revision)? Any kind of a road map would be great. A lot of times I get responses that say some functionality is planned for a future release. Or worse, I google something I'm trying to do and see an Atlassian team member saying they'd like to implement that feature - I look at the date and the post is from 6 years ago.

It'd be nice if there was somewhere that we could look to get a realistic idea of what was on the developer roadmap in the immediate future.
