Hello,

Am I right in understanding that it's not possible to create users in OpenLDAP from Jira? It only works the opposite way -- create users in OpenLDAP, then sync to Jira.

Is it also true for Microsoft Active Directory?

We have two instances of Jira ServiceDesk and Confluence, that we're trying to configure to use one common directory. Jira admins don't have access to the directory server (only to a particular OU), hence Jira users somehow need to be created by Jira.

What would be our options to achieve that?

Thank you.

Hi Roman,

For OpenLDAP - as far I know, you can achieve this by putting the ldap directory on top (order as first priority) in JIRA and configuring this directory with

  • LDAP permissions as Read/Write
  • Username - as a user who has read/write permissions to create users on your ldap server (to a particular OU)

As such, when you create a user in JIRA - the user will be created on your LDAP server since LDAP directory is the first directory. you can try this in your test / stage environment before doing on production.
