Custom field - Cascading List - Now requiring both fields required when it only required first field

Data Center Version 9.17.0

Field Config I have set this field required. All of a sudden now this field is requiring me to fill in BOTH fields rather than what it used to do, which was only made the first field required and the second field was optional. Now both are required. How can I go back to prior setting?

I did nothing that would of changed this. It happened on its own. Please HELP!!!!

Jira DC v9.7.0 introduced a new behaviour change. For more information, refer to the following ticket:

Perhaps you may consider setting a dummy option like "-" for the child option if the value is meant to be empty.

Is there an option to only require to the first choice instead of making both? I see the work around but still...I'd rather not do that. I loved how it worked before.

It would be nice if Atlassian is going to make changes like this, give us the users the option to be flexible on how we use it. We may not use it 100% the same how Atlassian devs do. Just 2 cents.
