Custom field select list "options" limit

I can create a custom field "select" list" and i know i can specify a number of "options" for users to choose from.

my question is, is there a limit on how many options a custom field has? can i have thousands of options in it?

also, is there a way to populate the options programmatically, i.e., from my database?

there is no limit to add option to select list custom field but i don't think that will be good to have more values on select list

if you want to get options from your data base then try with following plugin
