When working on a software project board using the timeline view, is there a way to add a field column customized to include typed notes? My intention is to write comments on the progress of each task but the fields seem to be standard.
Hey @Laura Naliati as Trudy says functionality like this is restricted to Premium/Enterprise subscriptions of JIRA.
BUT, you can our app (Visor) which has a bi-directional integration with Jira. You can use it to create Gantt charts, timelines, and other view types that all stay in sync with your Jira data.
You can completely customize which fields are shown in Visor timeline/Gantt views, including Jira custom fields. You can also add custom fields that only live in Visor to supplement your Jira data without complicating Jira itself.
Check out our reviews and try Visor for free via the Atlassian Marketplace:

Here are some examples of views I've created in Visor using my real-time Jira data:
Hope that helps!
Hello @Laura Naliati
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Your post tags indicate you are using a Standard subscription. If that is accurate then you are able to access only the "basic" Timeline feature.
It is not possible to add fields to the display in the basic Timeline feature.
In the Premium and Enterprise subscriptions there is the Advanced Roadmaps Plans feature which includes a Timeline where you can add certain types of custom fields to the timeline display.
