Hello Experts,
I’m currently using Jira reports to present project progress to various stakeholders. However, I’ve encountered a specific challenge with the time tracking report. It appears that progress is only reflected when a Jira issue is marked as "Closed."
In our workflow, though, the project team’s work is often considered complete when an issue reaches a different status—such as "In Deployment"—after which another team takes over for deployment.
Is there a way to configure the time tracking report to reflect progress based on a different workflow status, rather than only when an issue is closed?
Thank you in advance for your guidance.
Hi Puneet,
The native Jira time tracking options are, unfortunately, quite limited — they rely on fixed logic and don’t let you define progress based on custom workflow statuses like “In Deployment.”
If you need more flexibility, JetTime might be a great fit. It lets you build reports based on any status, track progress by custom definitions, and fully adapts to your workflow — all while staying privacy-first and running entirely on Atlassian infrastructure.

Hi Puneet Gupta!
I recommend trying Time & Cost Tracker for Jira app from my team, which helps you see the real progress of your project by tracking the current status of each task and the time spent on them.
Unlike the reports in Jira, this app records time for tasks at any stage, not only when they are "Closed". For example, you can also monitor time spent on tasks that are in "In Progress", "In Review," or "In Deployment" statuses.
You can easily see what your team is working on and how much time they have spent on each task before it is completed.
Hope it will help you in your case!
