Data residency move of Zephyr squad and Easy Agile TeamRhythm to Australia

Dr. Steve Whittle April 15, 2023

I wish to move my application and data residency of Jira Cloud, Easy Agile TeamRythym and Zephyr Squad from Global to Australia. The Jira Cloud move is straightforward but does anyone have info or experience with moving Zephyr Squad and Easy Agile TeamRhythm ?  I have not been able to locate a data residency eligibility status for these two marketplace products.

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve,

Easy Agile apps, including Easy Agile TeamRhythm, do not yet support a choice of data residency. I can confirm that app-specific data is stored in the USA.

However, using Easy Agile TeamRhythm together with a Jira Cloud instance located in Australia will still work as expected.

If you'd like to know more about where Easy Agile stores data and how we keep it secure, check our Data, Security & Reliability FAQs .

Hi @Dr. Steve Whittle

Marketplace apps need to be built to support data residency - https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/confluence/data-residency/ - however it looks like if the app was built on the Atlassian Forge platform, as of Nov, 2022 - residency wasn’t even supported - https://community.developer.atlassian.com/t/data-residency-for-marketplace-apps-status-update/63381

I’d suggest checking with both vendors if they even support it, or have plans/timeline to add support.

PS - just wanted to ensure that you’re aware that even if Jira/Confluence have data residency configured, this does not mean all related data is within that geography, only the “in scope” data which is outlined at https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/understand-data-residency/

Thanks for the quick and informative responses, Craig. I am reading through those links at the moment, and also investigating the implications of having Jira Cloud pinned to Australia but having to leave add-on products wherever they currently reside.

In addition to this topic, the Atlassian Forge platform doesn't support data residency, but Atlassian Connect, the alternative platform allows that.

Connect has been available for much longer and is a more mature platform. It allows the app developer to use his own stack, meaning that it is up to the app developer to implement data residency. So best is if you ask the app vendor.

(With Forge, the idea is that Atlassian will implement it, and then all Forge apps will inherently support it without any modification.)
