Deadline for using password instead of API token for API calls?

I was wondering whether there is a general deadline for all customers when API requests using basic authentication with username and password won't work anymore and we need to use API token or OAuth instead. 

I would also like to know whether there is an instance when Basic Auth with API token authentication won't work but Oauth would?

Basic auth with passwords and sessions don't work anymore.
